Regular Inspections = Crisis Prevention

Once water service is interrupted, New York regulations specify a limited time for water service to be restored before site evacuation, as do regulations in many municipalities. When United Immigrants Bank in New York was in danger of losing its water supply at 2 p.m. on a busy Friday afternoon, they were faced with a potential water, and business, crisis.

The building’s pressure reducing valve station was having trouble supplying enough water into one of the bank’s zones via one of the three-inch 15 year old Cla-vals. It had neither been inspected nor serviced for many years and active service was hanging by a thread. We were quickly able to provide on-site analysis and recommendations, and we fixed the problem by 7 pm that evening with no interruption in either water service or bank operations.

We were happy to avoid the crisis with emergency service, but what we prefer for our customers are regularly scheduled walk-through inspections by us, or by someone else knowledgeable in water valve function. Valve stations often go for years without being inspected, and if they are inspected, it is often by someone not qualified in water pump technology. Unqualified inspections routinely miss the subtle symptoms of a mal-functioning system. To insure uninterrupted water service, have your equipment regularly evaluated by someone trained to spot potential problems. You’ll keep the water flowing and the doors open.
